Another limitation to be aware of is on annual mileage; virtually all insurers stipulate a maximum mileage you can cover in your motorhome each year. This may be extendable upon the payment of an extra premium (or sometimes the limit is more generous to start with) - but again, there can be surprisingly little flexibility here. Remember, if you drive too far each year (or spend too long in Europe), you could find that your comprehensive cover reverts to just third party - a situation that we'd recommend you avoid at all costs.

Another thing to keep an eye on is whether breakdown cover is included as standard - or whether it's even available. There's also the potential situation where your motorhome isn't eligible for breakdown cover, because not everyone has a scheme without size or weight limits. There are no such restrictions with the Caravan Guard policy for example, which is why - at just £42 - we reckon it's the best value policy currently available. A full survey of separate stand-alone breakdown insurance policies for motorhomes appeared in the August 2005 issue of Which Motorcaravan. . NEXT>
