Beware - Motor Home theft is on the increase

Over the last few months we have become aware that a large number of motor homes have been stolen and taken to Ireland, and in particular to Northern Ireland. Police there have recently located a number of stolen motorhomes. This appears to be theft on an organised basis. It is therefore more important than ever to make sure that your vehicle is properly secured at all times, and particularly if you store your vehicle somewhere away from your home. Keys should never be left in or on the vehicle, and all windows and doors should be properly secured. If you have an alarm, ensure that it is properly set.

If you have a locking fuel cap, keep it locked and ensure the key is not left in it. We have seen examples of fuel caps being stolen and the thief then has a key cut for it. In many cases that same key will unlock the doors and ignition, leaving the thief free to unlock and steal the whole vehicle later.

You may also have read of several recent cases in continental Europe where motorhome owners were gassed whilst asleep in their vehicle, and subsequently robbed of personal belongings. This has happened before, and some simple precautions such as additional door and window security, and possibly a gas alarm may help to prevent such problems.

Losing your vehicle or belongings can be a distressing experience. Hopefully, taking sensible precautions will stop this from happening to you.

We are a family business, and we pride ourselves on our friendly and helpful service. We see many of our customers at the shows that we attend, but for those that do not come along to meet us, have a look at our latest series of advertisements in the motorhome magazines. If you have ever wanted to put a "face to a name", now you can.
