Proposals from the Department for Transport could have an impact on owners of motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes unladen. Vehicles in this group with a length of under 12 metres would see their speed limit reduced from 70mph to 65mph. There is also reference to the difference between older Passenger Carrying Vehicles (which are not speed-limited) and newer one (which are), with the intent of removing any incentive to hold on to an older, and possibly more polluting, vehicle. Whilst speed limiters are not a feature of motorhomes, they come into the same category for legal purposes, being classed as M1 leisure vehicles. Seems a bit unfair, and could make overtaking manoeuvres less safe.
