Holidays in the UK Set to Increase in 2012

The next twelve months looks set to be one of the best ever for people looking to holiday in the United Kingdom and motorhomes and caravans are going to play a big role. The economic downturn has helped the trend for home holidays to increase and with so much going on this year many people will decide to stay in the UK out of choice rather than necessity.

The national tourist board Visit-England say there is so much going on in 2012 that it is guaranteed to be one of the best years to holiday at home. There are some fantastic events taking place throughout the United Kingdom and the London 2012 Olympics will be at the forefront of a lot of people’s minds. For motorhome owners looking to enjoy a holiday that takes in the Olympics, the Camping and Caravanning Club has a number of sites which are in excellent locations for the games.

Some people will want to escape the Olympics, and for them there are also so many special things going on throughout the year. An exhibition of James Bond Vehicles will be held at the National Motor Museum, the annual husky race at Lincolnshire’s Grimsthorpe Castle is another great place to visit as is the Eden Project in Cornwall or the Butterfly Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon. With a very busy year expected, motorhome owners are being urged to make sure their motorhome insurance is up to date and valid before heading off to explore the UK.

Laura Smith, destination public relations manager at Visit-England, said “It’s going to be a fantastic year to holiday at home, with events and exhibitions taking place up and down the country. There are so many ways to get involved in this special year. As well as the Olympic and Paralympic Games, there are also the Torch Relay and Cultural Olympiad events happening, not to mention the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.”
