The Camping & Caravanning Club has signed an agreement with The Crown Estate to operate the Windsor Great Park Campsite during the summer of 2012. The agreement will run from July to August and will coincide with the Olympic Games.
The Campsite is close to Windsor Castle and it boasts a huge 286 pitches for caravans and motorhomes. The site will also offer on-site catering for those who want a day off from cooking inside or beside the mobile home. With the Olympic rowing, flat water canoeing and kayaking venue only two miles away, motorhome owners with Olympic tickets are already making sure their motorhome insurance policy is up to date and booking up places for what is expected to be a busy summer. The park is the perfect place for picnics, walking, cycling and exploring. The Royal Borough has a network of around 300km of public rights of way, offering a wealth of beautiful countryside, parkland, woodland and the river scenery of the Thames Path.
The campsite is actually situated within the Windsor Estate, which means the Great Park, The Royal Landscape comprising The Savill Garden and The Valley Gardens are all within easy walking distance, and Windsor and Swinley Forests are close enough to be explored. It is also next to the famous Long Walk which connects Windsor Castle with Snow Hill. Free entry is available to all areas of Windsor Great Park, apart from the Savill Garden.
An open air theatre has been scheduled on The Lawns in the Savill Garden for the 9th and 10th of August and all venues will be open daily during the Olmypic Games, with special admission offers for campsite visitors. The Camping & Caravanning Club’s summer of 2012 portfolio already includes four event sites close to the Olympic action and this agreement has been classed by them as a major addition. Windsor is home to two of the United Kingdom’s top visitor attractions in Windsor Castle and Legoland with the Changing of the Guard being another popular attraction that visitors to the site can enjoy.
