Though there are a good selection of motorhome owners who are versed in mechanics and engineering, there are plenty that aren’t. Most of us will go to our local garage, who may be able to do the job, but they may not be specialists in motorhomes and tourers. It could be that they will fix the problem, but it may not be a lasting solution.
The Club Standard
Both the Caravan Club (CC) and the Camping and Caravanning Club (CCC) have joined forced to provide an Approved Workshop Scheme which certifies when a garage meets the requisite standards for repairing motorhomes, caravans and campervans. The standard is easily visible and should be displayed at most garages.
Specialist Motorhome Knowledge
The benefit of using an approved workshop is that it breeds specialist knowledge about the maintenance of motorhomes and this benefits both you and the industry. It means repairs are easy, quick and well priced, and it means that apprentices are motorhome experts are working together to keep the industry standard high.
In an Emergency
Of course, it’s not always practical to find an approved service centre and in an emergency it is always recommended that you get your motorhome fixed wherever possible and worry about the motorhome insurance claim and details later. If this happens and you are unsure whether work has been carried out properly then you could take your motorhome to an approved workshop at a later date for a once over.
Serving is one of those tricky things for a consumer: it’s hard to know whether you’re getting good value for money because, usually, it’s difficult to understand the technical elements of the job. The Approved Workshop Scheme hopes to iron out any problems between garages and owners and hopes to keep quality high.
