If you’re looking for anything motorhome related, from a new vehicle to a tow-bar or just a competitive motorhome insurance quote, the place to get it is usually at a motorhome show. Various events are held around the year, we have just seen the NEC show in Birmingham, but there will be no show, as planned, in London’s Excel Centre next year.
Difficulties between contractors and the venue have meant the National Caravan Council have had to cancel space that had been allocated for the show. The venue has, also, recently been allocated to a low-emissions zone, making transport for motorhome owners increasingly difficult and increasingly expensive. This added to the decision to cancel the event.
A spokesman of the NCC has made it absolutely clear there were no difficulties with the venue itself, and as almost 45,000 visitors made the trip last year, it was clear the event would have been popular this year. The Excel centre is an ideal space for the show, but contractual difficulties mean finding the space and storage for such a large number of motorhomes is becoming increasingly challenging.
No Plans for a Reschedule
There are difficulties involved in hosting such a large event, none more challenging that storing and parking over 600 high-value motorhome and campervans. It’s unlikely that a new venue will be found to facilitate the 2013 show. If you’re desperate to get to a show early in the new year your best bet is the NEC Birmingham Spring Camping and Caravanning show which will feature all the big name manufacturers.
If you’ve ever tried parallel parking a motorhome you’ll have some idea of the logistical challenges involved with such a show, and though it’s disappointing to have it cancelled, it’s impossible to hold such an event without the right venue.
