Motorhome Awards 2013 Winners Revealed

Last week the winners of the Motorhome Awards 2013 were revealed at the Luton Hoo Hotel, where major manufacturers and dealers from the motorhome market convened to find out which models had been awarded the prestigious awards. The Motorhome Awards were created by the magazines Motorcaravan Motorhome Monthly (MMM) and Which Caravan, and was also sponsored by the Caravan Club, which means that manufacturers that won awards can be confident that they will do well in the motorhome and caravan industry in the upcoming year.

The judges assessed every new or significantly modified model for 2013, and came up with a shortlist for the winners of each category. Probably one of the most exciting categories of the night was Motorhome of the Year, which was won by the Pilote Reference P716 LPR. Discussing the win, Which Motorhome Editor and MMM Road test Editor, Peter Vaughn said: “As an all-rounder, the Pilote Reference P716 LPR just couldn’t be bettered. It’s superbly equipped (from its superior installation to its UK-spec kitchen), has a popular and proven layout, and offers superb value for money. The standard of all category winners this year was higher than ever, but the Reference P716 LPR stood out from the crowd.”

The Pilote Reference P716 LPR includes a front lounge, a centre kitchen and a French bed in the rear; however the lounge area also offers a drop down double bed which is controlled electronically by a corded handset. Furthermore, the kitchen has been Anglicised so that it would be more appealing to British customers and now includes a low-level domestic cooker with oven, grill, three-burner hob, a mains hotplate and a large fridge freezer.

Other winners of the night include the Biblo Celex LWB who won Campervan of the Year. The judges praised this campervan due to its neat and functional design and build, as well as the fact that the cab seats swivel meaning that the lounge area can be bigger than many other campervans of the same type. Furthermore, the side-hinged roof means that there is enough room for full-length standing, and there’s also enough floor space to get dressed and a portable toilet that slides out from an under-seat locker, saving even more space.

Campervan and motorhome enthusiasts will be sure to take interest in the winners of the Motorhome Awards 2013, especially if they are thinking of buying a new model this year, however they must make sure to cover their new purchases with motorhome insurance before setting out on their journeys.
