4 Delicious Dishes you can Cook in your Motorhome or Campervan

Some people think that when it comes to cooking in a campervan or motorhome you need to be as simple as possible due to the lack of room, however this isn’t the case! In fact, there are a number of delicious dishes you can rustle up in your vehicle that will not only please the fussiest of eaters but also keep you going along your journeys.

Home-Made Soup

Soup is one of those dishes that can be extremely boring unless you put a bit of effort in, so before you just cook some tomatoes and shove them in a blender take a step back and think about how you can make the dish more exciting. For example, tomato soup is great, but why not add some herbs, spices or even additional vegetables to bulk it out? Jamie Oliver’s recipe includes celery, garlic and carrots to name a few, and it only takes 45 minutes to cook! If you are after something even more hearty why not try cooking your own traditional Welsh Cawl (pronounced “cowl”)? This includes ham, turkey, lamb or mutton as well as chunky vegetables such as carrots, leeks and swede – perfect to warm you up on those cold winter nights!

Curry (Spice Optional)

Those that have travelled to India, Singapore or anywhere else in Asia will know that their staple (and delicious) food is curry. However, the term “curry” has a different meaning from country to country and even region to region, meaning that there are hundreds of different versions to choose from. With all this choice you would be mad not to give curry a whirl in your campervan or motorhome, especially as you only need a few ingredients to come up with something truly mouth-watering. If you are a fan of Indian-style curries why not try something different such as kofta curry – that’s short for curry with meatballs! Those that want something with more of an Asian twist should try massaman curry which is mildly spicy and topped with peanuts.

Packed Lunches from Around the World

When most people think of packed lunches, the first thing that springs to mind is soggy sandwiches and some sort of processed cheese. However, the truth is that packed lunches vary massively across the world, so instead of soggy sandwiches why not try a Turkish wrap, Italian focaccia, or even Japanese sushi? Here at Comfort Insurance we love Italian focaccias as they are a blend between a pizza and a sandwich which taste amazing. For fillings try chicken, tomatoes, pesto, mozzarella or anything else you can think of! As extras try something different such as couscous, pasta salad or hummus that are all much healthier and tastier than some string cheese!

Since The Great British Bake Off hit our screens all those years ago the UK has been obsessed with baking, and even though you may not have the skills to take on Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood that doesn’t mean you can’t give it a go in your motorhome or campervan! One dish that nearly everyone can cook, even in the confines of a motorhome or campervan kitchen, is a Victoria sponge. All you need to create this iconic dish is sugar, flour, eggs, butter and baking powder – staple foods that are usually found in every motorhome! If you are a more advanced baker then you can try making your own jam filling or decorations such as icing flowers, fresh fruit displays or even hand-piped messages. Just make sure you save us a slice!
