4 Ways to make Money from your Campervan

Image of Pound CoinsHere at Comfort Insurance we love campervans due to the fact that they are amazingly adaptable; you can transform nearly any campervan regardless of its size or condition into something truly special with just a little bit of imagination. However, if you are thinking about using a campervan that you already own or are planning to invest in to make money there are a couple of things that you need to keep in mind. So here we look at four ways to use your campervan to make money and what you need to do in order to secure success:

Create a mobile Business

The UK has numerous traditions that involve the great outdoors: festivals, May Day celebrations and even cheese rolling (look it up). During the summer months thousands of people head to outdoor events with friends and family so they are great places to go if you are trying to make a bit of extra money. When it comes to outdoor events organisers generally like to keep things as traditional as possible, which is why campervans are perfect as they are considered classic vehicles in the UK.

In order to turn your campervan into a business the first thing you need to think about (apart from whether you are covered by your motorhome insurance policy) is what you are going to sell: some people convert their campervans into kitchens so that they can sell burgers, chips and cups of tea, while other use them to sell vintage accessories such as jewellery and scarves. One of the great things about converting your campervan into a business is that you are totally mobile so you can go where the customers are, helping you make even more money!

Restore Classic Campervans

Unfortunately, some people don’t care for their campervans as much as others, which means that across Britain there are thousands of run-down campervans being hidden away in garages. Whether you want to restore a campervan for yourself or do so in order to sell it on, finding one that is suitable shouldn’t be too hard. The internet is a great place to search for people selling their campervans, especially forums and websites dedicated to campervan fans.

Once you’ve found a campervan that is suitable for restoring, the first thing you need to do is come up with a realistic plan. Restoring a campervan can take a considerable amount of both time and money, which means it’s essential you always stick to your budget and time-frames. This will become much easier the more times you restore campervans, so once you become good at it you may be able to make a decent living out of restoring old models and selling them on!

Do Something for Charity

We all know that we should do a bit more for charity, however this fact often seems to slip our minds or we just never get round to it. However, if you own a campervan you can organise something incredibly easily, such as driving from Land’s End to John o’ Groats or even scaling Ben Nevis! Before you head off on your journey you will naturally try to make sure all your friends and family donate as much as possible, however with some clever thinking you can also make money while on the road.

One of the great things about campervans is that they are extremely eye-catching due to their size, however if you are trying to gain attention from members of the public you can do so much more. For example, you can invest in wash-off paint to decorate your campervan with, install a novelty horn in order to catch people’s attention or even use a megaphone so you can broadcast your message to all those around you!

Offer your Knowledge

If you have never owned a campervan before then it’s often hard to know where to start, which is why knowledge concerning campervans and campervan holidays is invaluable. If you have spent a considerable amount of years holidaying in campervans then you probably have some handy tricks and tips that people would love to hear, so why not offer your services to groups looking to learn more about campervans and charge a nominal fee for your time.

If you find yourself being regularly asked for advice on campervans and campervan holidays you could even think about setting up your own company. There are plenty of people out there that would like to know more about campervans, which is why so many exhibitors attend events such as the Motorhome and Caravan Show offering advice. Who knows, it could end up becoming your full-time job!
