Caravan Park wins Peculiar Award

A caravan park in Wales has won a rather unique award – UK Loo of the Year. This award, started back in 1987, was set up to encourage the highest standards of care when it comes to toilets that are provided for the public. The five star Min-y-Don Holiday Home and Touring Park at Harlec, which is based in the scenic setting of the Cambrian Coast, won the award for having the best restroom facilities in the whole of the UK. This popular spot for caravanners also won the UK Market Sector Award for best holiday park, the Wales national category award, and a gold grading at a star studded event at Solihull earlier this month.

Back in 2008, the fifteen acre site underwent a massive two million pound redevelopment, with many advancements including a toilet block where new toilets, showers, wash hand basins, and full disabled facilities were created. The redevelopment also included installing new laundry and dishwashing facilities, and a number of private washrooms. The redevelopment and the new facilities have proved to be a great success, as they are gaining rave reviews from critics and clients alike.

Park Manager, Sue Middleton said that she was extremely pleased how these recent accolades recognised how much work had gone into the campsite in the past year by herself and her co-manager Richard Hodgson. “It’s absolutely brilliant news for the park and great credit is due to Lesley and Andy Holland, who take great care of the cleaning and the maintenance of the toilet block. We believe it’s vitally important that we provide the best toilet facilities for customers and staff”, added Middleton.

Local Assembly Member for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, congratulated the staff from the site and urged other park owners and operators across the UK to strive for the highest standards in accommodation and care at their sites.

For those wanting to travel to the new site, it is important to make sure you book in advance, as these recent awards will mean that the popularity of the site is sure to increase. Make sure that you also have caravan insurance before you set off on your journey so that your caravan is protected for your entire holiday.
