Ford plans to increase Motorhome Manufacturing
In the past few months we have reported on how there has been an increase in the amount of people in the UK who are investing in motorhomes and choosing to go on motorhome holidays instead of travelling abroad. This is great news not just for motorhome insurance providers but also motorhome manufacturers and the tourism industry, as well as the UK economy as the motorhome industry now contributes an average of six billion pounds to it per year.
Now it has been reported that Ford are planning on increasing the amount of motorhomes they manufacturer in America as well as the capacity of its 6.8 litre V10 engine due to the fact that demand for the vehicles is also on the up across the pond. This highlights how the motorhome industry can have a great effect on economies, and that the leisure market in general seems to be picking itself back up again after the recession.
Ford is already well known in the motorhome manufacturing industry, as not only do they produce their own vehicles and chassis but also manufacture parts for other well-known motorhome suppliers such as Thor, Winnebago and Fleetwood.
They are now planning on increasing their chassis production by thirty five per cent in order to keep up with the increasing demand for motorhomes in the US. Last year alone sales of Class A motorhomes rose by fourteen per cent according to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Organisation, and in the last quarter even increased by a massive forty-three per cent, which is a good indicator that the economy of the US seems to be improving.
Discussing the decision, Ford Vice President for U.S Marketing, Sales and Service, Ken Czubay said: “We’re pleased that while other chassis manufacturers have left this segment Ford continues its commitment to the RV upfitter industry. We’re increasing our participation in this industry as motorhome customers return to the market.”
One of Ford’s most well-known motorhome models, the F-53 motorhome, along with the F-59 commercial chassis are built by their partner Detroit Chassis at their facility in Detroit, and hopefully the increase in production of these parts will see the local residents benefitting from a potential rise in employment opportunities.
