Caravan Equipment: What Do You Need?

Have you just bought your first caravan?

It’s an exciting time. But before you set off on your first weekend-away, you need to make sure you have everything you need.

Not just your holiday clothes, and not just your pots and pans. But the essential caravan equipment that, without, you will struggle to make it through day one of your holiday.

Some of it may seem obvious, and you will already have it. But we wanted to make a comprehensive guide on what you cannot survive without.

Here’s what you need…

Water Equipment

You can’t live without water.

Not just from the tap, which you’ll use to drink from. You also need water for the bathroom, for your shower and toilet.

Some people choose to use the facilities on a camp site they’ve set up on – but it’s much more convenient to be prepared yourself.

So here’s what you need:

  • A water carrier
  • A water pump
  • Water purifying tablets

The water carrier will hold all your water, and sits outside the caravan. You can fill it up using the camp site’s facilities and take it back to your caravan (we’d recommend buying one with wheels).

With the carrier, you also need a pump. This connects the water to your caravan so you can use the water for your shower, sink or toilet.

A single water purifying tablet can purify 25 litres of water. This one isn’t absolutely necessary, but one we’d certainly advise if you’re drinking the water.

Toilet Equipment

Again, if you’re going to be using your caravan’s toilet – and not relying on camp site facilities – then you need the right equipment.

You need to invest in some toilet chemicals that will not only clean the toilet, but will break down the waste in the holding cassette.

It will also help prevent bad odours from appearing in the rest of your caravan.

As a side note, you should also buy a water waste carrier. This won’t take waste from the toilet, but will take care of the dirty water from your sink and shower.

Power Equipment

If you want electricity in your caravan, then you need the necessary equipment.

It doesn’t matter if you simply want to turn on the interior lights, or watch TV, you need a way to power it all.

There are two items to invest in:

  • A Mains Kit
  • A Leisure Battery

A mains kit will allow you to connect to the power on a camp site. Without one, you simply won’t be able to.

We’d also recommend a multi-socket mains kit, so you can plug in multiple things at once.

A leisure battery works the same as a car battery, and can be used to keep the fridge on whilst driving, so your food doesn’t get spoiled.

These are what we consider to be the absolute essentials when you have a caravan.

There are lots of other things you could buy too. Most people like to get an awning so they have additional room, and a step so they can get in and out of the caravan safely.

Others like to make sure they have enough security features, such as a wheel lock.

With all of these items, we’re certain you’ll be able to enjoy your next trip without any problems.
