Formula One legend Nigel Mansell has a Harrogate motorhome company to thank for giving him a few home comforts while he takes on a gruelling charity cycle marathon. The former world champion hopes £15,000 will be raised for the leading national youth work charity, UK Youth.
Nigel will be pedalling for eleven days, starting at John o’Groats and ending at Paris and he is confident that all will go well despite him breaking his collarbone while training for the charity ride. UK Youth is a national youth work charity supporting over 750,000 young people who are helped to raise their aspirations, realise their potential and finally reach their achievements. Nigel is the President of UK Youth and he wants to raise awareness of the organization. The cycle marathon will be hard work for Nigel, but in the few moments he has to rest, one of the United Kingdom’s most enduring motorsport stars will be able wind down in a luxury vehicle provided by Harrogate Motorhomes, who are also supporting the ride.
The company’s owner, Annette Wingate, feels UK Youth is a fantastic cause which helps young people play an active and rewarding part in projects throughout the country. They are delighted to have been asked to be involved and have taken care of everything, including motorhome insurance and fuel. The marathon will stop off in Blackpool to take part in the Tower to Tower ride from the seaside resort all the way across the Channel to the centre of Paris.
Nigel said: “We haven’t had the best weather for the first section of the ride but it’s been great knowing we have some pasta and soup to look forward to in the motorhome at the end of the day. The vehicle has given us that little bit of luxury and we’re very grateful to Annette and her team for helping us out.”
