Campervan owners are always keen to find new and exciting things to do on their trips, which is why so many of them make sure they have extensive campervan insurance policies so no matter they encounter whilst away they are covered. Adventurous campervan owners will be excited to hear then that presenter of One Man and His Campervan show and author of The Camper Van Cookbook, Martin Dorey, is organising bespoke weekend trips for VW campervan owners, where they experience a beach-side spa along with other exciting activities.
One of Martin’s more peculiar activities as part of his spa-weekends includes soaking in a bath tub full of warm sea water and sea-weed on the beach-front. Discussing the baths, Martin said: “Seaweed baths are relatively common in Ireland but here in the UK it’s not something most of us would consider – even though many beauty products have seaweed in them. Sitting in mineral-rich seaweed is odd, at first, but feels fantastic on the skin. I’m going to be demonstrating how good it is by setting up my own home-made seaweed spas during my series of Campervan Weekends in Devon this summer.”
The weekends will also offer campers the chance to take part in other activities such as foraging walks, beach fishing and lobster potting with survival expert Steve Marshall, beach trekking to find local wrecks and surfing with the local surf school. Martin’s idea is to give experienced and novice campervans more knowledge about the great outdoors and how they can enjoy it whilst on their trips.
He said: “The idea of these weekends is to offer campers an instant and extraordinary camping experience with everything laid on. Wild camping on the coast is near impossible in England and, for people who are new to the campervan experience, it can be difficult to know where to camp, what to eat and how to cram it all in. I’ll show them the way.” Martin is also planning on cooking recipes from his book during the trips, and showing campers how to smoke food, cook over open fires and eat foraged beach food.
Tickets for those that own their own van are £320 and include food, drink and three nights camping. For those that want to take part yet do not own their own campervan, Martin has teamed up with the local campervan hire company O’Connor’s Campers in Okehampton in order to offer a fifteen per cent discount on vehicles.
