Private car restriction

We recently came across an interesting situation where a motorhome owner happened to mention to their private car insurer that they were about to go on a lengthy European trip (without their car).  Nothing unusual in that, but the car insurer promptly informed their client that their car policy would be invalid, apparently because the car would be left unattended for more than 90 days.

At Comfort Insurance we haven’t come across such a private car policy restriction but it just shows that it pays to check these things out.  It may of course have been a misunderstanding or a case of “crossed wires” but with insurers getting ever tighter with policy cover anyone leaving a car behind at home whilst they travel with their motorhome should perhaps double-check their policy cover.
