Even in the days when motor-homing was mostly a summer pastime, it didn’t take much to put a front-wheel drive van off its task. A patch of wet grass would do it. These days motorhomes are built to withstand all weathers, so there is the possibility of snow and ice to contend with, not just mud.
It’s good to see then that the latest addition to the base vehicle choice is the current range of VW T5 vans. The line-up includes a choice of engines and gearboxes (including automatic) and, crucially, four-wheel drive. This, in combination with traction control and ESP brings true off-road capability.
Does this mark the end of the embarrassing tow-by-tractor to get off a campsite?
