Just days after being involved in a car crash, teenage sensations One Direction got behind the wheels of a retro campervan to demonstrate it was back to normal as far as their career was concerned.
The boys who came to fame via the X-Factor TV show hardly look old enough to hold driving licences never mind drive the motor down dirt tracks, but drive they did and finished up at a remote beach where filming took place which will form part of the introductory video for their live tour of the UK. Last Thursday the boys were involved in a car crash which saw three of them treated for neck injuries, however, they all seemed in good spirits and seemed quite at home in the camper van.
The lucky lads were driving a split screen VW camper from the 1970s which was hired out by Celtic Campers who are now getting used to Television and film crews hiring out their iconic camper vans. Zach Guilar, a director of the hire company, said “It was really strange to see our vans on there. We have five campervans which include two split screen designs from 1967 and 1972 and two bay window vans from 1973. They were the first band to hire out one of our campervans. We met the boys and they were lovely. It was a good day.”
The vans are available for hire to anyone with appropriate campervan insurance but Mr Guilar said their main business now came from customers trying to capture recollections of a former era and the vans were in big demand for weddings and anniversaries.
