A West Country couple have been left devastated by the theft of their campervan just months before it was to take pride of place at their wedding celebrations.
Jamie Sharp and Krista Hoey have spent hundreds of hours over the last two years lovingly restoring a classic 1972 VW campervan they fondly know as “Poppy”. It is their pride and joy and they travelled the country attending motor shows in the maroon coloured VW. In fact the couple had left the VW outside Jamie’s garage on Sunday night after returning from the Chris Evans Car Festival, but Monday morning saw Jamie phoning his campervan insurance provider rather than doing the planned work on Poppy’s starter motor.
The couple have already spent hours scouring the internet looking for clues and asking fellow campervan enthusiasts to look out for Poppy but they have had no luck so far. An upset Jamie said: “We went everywhere with her. We had made Poppy just how we liked her, inside and out, and would go away any chance we had. We’re getting married next spring and we really wanted Poppy to be part of our big day. We were hoping to travel to the reception and then take her down to Cornwall for our honeymoon. We would love to get Poppy back, not just because of the wedding, she is part of the family. If she’s been damaged or taken to pieces by whoever has done this, it will be such a shame. If there’s anything anyone can do to help get her back – someone in Bristol knows what happened to her – we would be immensely grateful.”
Jamie is convinced someone must have seen the thieves making their escape with Poppy whose number plate is PPR 459L, as the faulty starter motor would have required them to tow the VW away, and now the couple are just hoping they receive a phone call soon saying Poppy has been recovered.
